So apparently, #4 is going to be on the cover of Madden 09. Despite the fact that he's not playing a single snap in 2008-2009.
I guess that's one good way to avoid the dreaded "Madden Curse". Then again, what is he setting himself up for? A broken leg? Falling off his tractor? Who knows.
Now for those of you who scoff at superstition, check out the data:
1999 - Garrison Hearst - Snapped his ankle and was out for over a year.
2000 - Dorsey Levens - Stuck as a reserve because of bad play.
2001 - Eddie George - After being on the cover, he never had a 1000+ yard rushing year again due to injuries.
2002 - Daunte Culpepper - Injured his back. Later as further proof of a curse, got traded to the Dolphins. As he was lauging about that, the curse struck harder and sent him to Oakland.
2003 - Marshall Faulk - Ankle injury caused him to miss 5 games, his carreer pretty much has gone downhill since being on the cover.
2004 - Mike Vick - Broke his leg. Ended up with the herp and then in prison.
2005 - Ray Lewis - Ended up breaking his arm. His stats declined. Now he's old and busted.
2006 - Donovan McNabb - Ended up with a sports hernia and nearly lost his job to Jeff Garcia.
2007 - Shaun Alexander - Coming off a stellar year, broke his foot, and faded into obscurity until the Seahawks just released him.
2008 - Vince Young - May be the first guy to ever avoid a curse, despite being injured for just one game. Only time will tell however as sometimes it takes multiple years for the curse to take full effect.
2009 - Brett Favre - Immune.

Madden has always had a "man crush" on Brett, so I guess it's only fitting that he pays him this tribute.
