Gillisipe has been a very busy boy

Thursday, May 8, 2008, 01:30 PM EST [General]

The following is a list of players that CBC has recruited into Kentucky for the next several years.  All of this has been done within the past year.  Several of these players are so far away from entering college that it is hard to guess where they will end up when that time comes.

    -2008 Recruiting Class-

    Kevin Galloway - PG - 6-6 - 210
    Josh Harrellson - PF - 6-9 - 265
    DeAndre Liggins - PG - 6-5 - 190
    Darius Miller - SF - 6-6 - 215

    -2009 Recruiting Class-

    Jon Hood - SG - 6-6 - 185
    GJ Vilarino - PG - 6-0 - 160

    -2010 Recruiting Class-

    Dakotah Euton - PF - 6-7 - 215
    Dominique Ferguson - SF - 6-9 - 210
    KC Ross-Miller - PG - 6-0 - 170

    -2011 Recruiting Class-

    Vinny Zollo - PF - 6-8 - 215

    -2012 Recruiting Class-

    Michael Avery - SG - 6-4 - 185

There are several interesting trends in this list.

The most obvious is that Gillispie is getting out very early and making sure that nobody gets a jump on Kentucky.

The second is that Gillispie is not allowing Kentucky kids to leave the state.  Miller, Hood and Euton are all Kentucky kids.

The third is that Gillispie is willing to take some risks.  Recruiting kids prior to their Jr. Year of high school is a risky business.  You do not know how they will develop within the next 4 years either in skill or size.

If what we have heard concerning Avery is true, Gillispie has only seen him play in one AAU event.  I am sure that the UK staff is very good at talent evaluation, but can you really judge what a 15 year old kid will look like after seeing him over one weekend?

This we do know, Kentucky fans are getting exactly what they want. high profile recruiting to hold them through these down months.

    Vottomatic?

Thursday, May 8, 2008, 12:21 PM EST [General]

Yes, Vottomatic is quite lame, but it seems to work.

3 for 4 elevating his average to back over .300, 3 homeruns, 4 RBI and a Baseball Tonight interview.  Not a bad day at the office.  Votto has responded well to becoming the full-time starter at 1B.  Votto has been lights out against Lefty'****ting .407.

It seems as though Volquez is in the baseball version of the witness protection plan.  He is 5-1, with a ridiculous 1.06 ERA.  He is leading all of the Major Leagues in strikeouts and in his lone loss he gave up only one earned run.  Despite the two minutes given to him in the back half of Baseball Tonight I don't think anybody else in the country even realizes it.  Yesterday's dazzling performance was completed overshadowed by Votto.  It is a shame.
