    Redlegs v. Fishheads 5.12

Monday, May 12, 2008, 07:09 PM EST [General]

Woo... plenty of good seats available. Can't blame anyone for not coming to see this crap.

    Oh well.

Holy Crap, Mr. Redlegs is getting back on the ATV with Gapper. That's a bad idea. Mr. Redlegs, you could see, was hesitant, but he did hop aboard. He survived the trip with his head intact.

We've got a new sign here, a big Ohio lottery clock on top of the scoreboard in left. It seems like there's a new sign every day. The marketing department seems like its having a much better year than the team.

Top 1: Coming into the game, the last eight runs the Marlins had scored off of Harang were homers. Make that 10 after Hermida and Ramirez go back-to-back. That's the fifth time the Marlins have gotten back-to-back homers this season and the fourth time the Reds have surrendered back-to-back homers. Cantu singles up the middle. The Marlins aren't missing today. Wow. I still don't really understand the Cantu move. Walk to Uggla. Dick Pole visit with one out in the first -- don't see that offen with Harang. This might be the first time I've heard Harang booed, too. The good thing about hard-hit balls. If they're hit t an infielder with a guy on first, it's an easy DP. Fishheads 2, Deadlegs 0

Bottom 1: Corey Patterson. Speed at the top of the lineup makes that call closer at first when he grounds out. Fishheads 2, Deadlegs 0

Top 2: After a Adam Harnag pitched the first inning, Aaron Harang came out of the second. 1-2-3 with 2 Ks. Fishheads 2, Deadlegs 0

Bottom 2: Between innings, the Marlins players were giving a nice look over of the Reds cheerleaders. The Marlins, no doubt, are comparing them to their own Mermaids. The difference, really, is like high school vs. pro football cheerleaders. One set is there for "spirit" while the other looks as if it's missing a pole. Two Reds made Yahoo!'s Dick Trickle All-Stars for baseball players with NASCAR names. Neither is active right now with Todd Coffey in Louisville and Norris Hopper on the DL. Gotta give it to Burke Badenhop -- not only is he going high socks, but also real stirrups. That's class. Fishheads 2, Deadlegs 0

Top 3: Corey Patterson can play defense. It's just too bad he's leading off. Fishheads 2, Deadlegs 0

Bottom 3: So, I generally dislike booing, but Dunn deserved it when he grounded one to first and didn't run it out. It was close. But yeah, it was close. Leave it to Aaron Harang to break up the no-hitter, followed by a single by Corey Patterson. You've got the speed on the bases, but you've got Harang clogging the bases in front of that speed. Fishheads 2, Deadlegs 0

Top 4: Wow. 12th homer of the season for Dan Uggla. Wow. 12? And the last 11 runs the Marlins have scored off of Harang have been from homers. Harang left it way up and Uggla just put a decent swing on it and it was gone in a hurry. Fishheads 3, Deadlegs 0

Bottom 4: Seriously, Burke Badenhop? Fishheads 3, Deadlegs 0

Top 5: If it weren't for the homers.... Fishheads 3, Deadlegs 0

Bottom 5: Maybe I should badmouth Corey Patterson daily. A two-out RBI double to right gets the Reds on the board. Aaron Harang was able to lay down a nice sac bunt to move Bako over after his single. Jorge Cantu's E5 makes it 3-2 on Kepp's play to third. Intentional walk to Junior. Hmmmmm. Interesting, on the baseball cards with the questions they show up on the scoreboard, Ken Griffey Jr.'s favorite athlete listed was Kirby Pickett. Good move by the Marlins, FC for Phillips. Fishheads 3, Deadlegs 2

Top 6: Cantu caught stealing -- Bako threw him out from his knees. Quite impressive. Not that Cantu is Corey Patterson or anything, but, well, still.... Fishheads 3, Deadlegs 2

Bottom 6: Walk for Votto and double by EE puts runners on second and third for Dunn with no outs. Sac fly for Dunner to tie it. He hit it on a rope. Aggressive baserunning by EE to take third on the sec. Looks like the Marlins are going to appeal EE. He's ruled safe. The three Marlins fans boo. Wild pitch is a run, and with Harang at the plate, a wild pitch gives the Reds the lead. 4-3. Deadlegs 4, Fishheads 3

Top 7: Leadoff double for Uggla. One-out swinging bunt for Helms. Sac fly for Rabelo. Mike Jacobs in for the Marlins. And, intentionally walked to get to Amezaga. Interesting. Jacobs is subbed, because he can barely run. Scott Olsen pinch running. He's usually running from the cops, so this is a little different. And it works. Fielder's choice. Deadlegs 4, Fishheads 4

Bottom 7: Taylor Tankersley in for the Marlins. I covered Tankersley at Alabama. He was pretty decent there. Nice bunt single for Patterson. And then Kepp is asked to sac bunt? I'm not a big sac bunt guy -- but I'm really not a sac bunt guy with one of the best hitters in the league with runners on at bat. And, well, they took it off. And that's why you don't bunt there. Keppinger hits his third and makes it 6-4. Kepp showed bunt the first few times. That was a 368 foot bunt of sorts. Wow. A bomb for Phillips. I'm surprsed Phillips isn't thrown at more. He certainly admired that one for a while. Deadlegs 8, Fishheads 4

Top 8: David Weathers in the game for the Reds. Weathers in the 7 spot, Hairston in the nine spot, playing left. It's never dull in the 8th, is it? A single, two outs and then a walk for Weathers. Affeldt comes in and gives up an RBI single to Luis Gonzalez. Francisco Cordero comes in -- in the save situation. Cordero hits Helms, bringing up Rabelo. Wow. A pop up to left and it hits Griffey in the glove and pops out. Cody Ross batting for Tankersley. After a walk, Junior drops another one after a long run, but corrals it. It's like he closed his glove early on both. Deadlegs 8, Fishheads 7

Bottom 8: Corey Patterson with his fourth hit of the night.Deadlegs 8, Fishheads 7

Top 9: K, 6-3 and former Red Jorge Cantu is the last hope for the Fish. He hits it a mile high, but only 100 feet deep, Keppinger gets it. And this one belongs to the Reds

The Dick Trickle All-Star Team also has 5 former Reds. Maybe we could win the manufacturer's points race?? This baseball things isn't working out all that well.

Couldn't help but notice the boo birds are out for Dunner. With the attendance going in the toilet do you think the roster blow up will come sooner rather than later?

I still don't get why Bruce isn't up here. Makes no sense to me.

probably because they don't think he's ready... or afraid to rush him -- you know, like corey patterson was rushed
