GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Minor upset of the day, a couple of the young receivers were on the field first today, beating Corey Lynch, and breaking his Ripken-like streak of being hte first on the field every day of training camp.
I've laways liked the football on a stick that defensive line coaches use to simulate a snap. Well, Antwan Odom is using it to practice his golf swing.
Not dressed (updated as I see 'em): Antwan Odom, Rashad Jeanty, Dan Howell (but sans boot), Ethan Kilmer, Jeremi Johnson, Herana-Daze Jones, Rudi Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh,
And yes, I've heard the rumor that either Carson Palmer or Chad Johnson broke their arm. That would be false or they're both doign a nice job of catching and throwing with broken arms. Went through and all the starters on offense and defense are here and accounted for.
One of my favorite things to do is to look for poor jersey purchase choices and the Bengals always give us that opportunity. Saw a Keiwan Ratliff jersey in the crowd. Dude with the Ahmad Brooks jersey? You may want to look into a second choice.
Pretty standard practice out here. Keith Rivers is still running with the 2s.
John Thornton is wearing the orange leadership jersey on the defense.
Frostee Rucker, out. Jonathan Fanene, your shot with the 1s. Not sure if Rucker is quite getting it. I've heard him get yelled at quite a bit by the coaches for being in the wrong spot.
* First the taxpayers pay for a stadium, and now we have to pay for the team's cuts. Could Marvin Lewis have saved Hamilton County taxpayers half-a-mil if he'd just say, "nah, that dude sucked."? And who knows if we'll ever see Chad Johnson's part of that.
WIth the first team offense, one heck of a sideline catch just made by Glenn Holt.
Jerome Simpson seems to be improving just about every time I see him.
Looks like Chad Johnson left drills with cramps. He's ont he bench right now, apparently eating sunflower seeds. Not sure if that salt exactly helps.
Really nice throw and catch in the 10-minute drill from Palmer on the run to Marcus Maxwell, diving back to catch it.
Had one last play on the two-minute, and Johnathan Joseph breaks up a pass to Marcus Maxwell. Jospeh appears to be slightly shaken up, but looks to be telling everyone he's OK. My guess is the wind got knocked out of him. Heck of a play.
Chad Johnson had his right ankle iced and missed the last half-hour to 45 mintues of practice.
Asked Marvin Lewis if there was any news. his response was "no."
As soon as I write about Jerome Simpson improving, he dropped the last ball of practice. Still, he said he's feeling more and more comfortable.
When asked if he still had a chip on his shoulder, he said, 'don't you see it there?' Was good comic timing.
Talk to Ben Utecht and will add that to the story on Reggie Kelly I posted on 1530homer.com, 700wlw.com and will add it to the blog here in a little bit. He had some interesting comments on Kelly.

Ethan hasn't seemed to have any impact on the team since 2006 (particularly that Saints game). I know they like his toughness and special teams prowess, but I have got to wonder if his opportunity may be passing him by.
