    Thinking out loud 9.8

Nope, that wasn't a dream -- just bad football.

Two bad, bad teams. Really, everyone knew the Ravens would be running, and Le'Ron McClain just ran it down their throats. I covered McClain in college and never remember him looking that good in college. Of course, he was playing the SEC, not against teh Bengals, so that could explain it.

    * Kerry Collins will lead the Titans this week in Cincinnati. He looked good and Tennessee comes in with a win over Jacksonville. 0-2?

    * Absolutely hate to see Dustin Grutza suffer a broken leg. Here's a guy who has always done what has been asked of him and he gets some bad luck against the Sooners.

    * I'm as old school as anyone when it comes to baseball, but loved what Jolbert Cabrera said after Sunday's game about Kerry Wood yelling at him: "He has a reason to be mad, but not at me. I was just doing my job. I'm sure if he strikes me out, he pumps his arm."

    * The Hardball Times has a list of theme songs for all 30 teams. The Reds? "Battle of Who Could Care Less" by Ben Folds Five.

    * I gotta admit, it's great to see the Yankees in fourth place.

    * A shame what happened in Washington-BYU the other day. That's going by the letter of the law, not the spirit of the law. There's excessive celebration and then there's that.

    * New Okkervil River album out tomorrow.

    * Cool stuff from WOXY.com on The Whigs

    * Great stuff on My Old Kentucky Blog about the 10 Commandments of Concert Behavior. This is a big pet peeve of mine. I'm very big on concert demeanor. This one --  Thou Shall Not Request Songs -- reminds me of a show my friend Lee and I went to years ago. It was a PJ Harvey show -- Is This Desire? tour, I believe -- and someone was screaming a song title and Lee looked over and said, "she ain't a jukebox, people.' I always loved that line. It was delivered well. And, well, it's right on. Also remember an Afghan Whigs show, on my 23rd birthday, that someone yelled out a song that they'd already played (Conjure Me), and Greg made fun of him for doing so.

    * Variety liked Zack and Miri Make a Porno

    * More Ghostbusters 3 news here -- basically, it's on.

    * I already have the Big Lebowski on DVD, but I may just drop $24 for the packaging alone on the 10th Anniversary Edition

    * Oh, and my first born's namesake is pretty good...

(Seriously, even if you hate football (and if you're a Bengal fan, I wouldn't blame you), watch the runs at 1:20 and 2:05 -- those are the last two runs on the tape, but with several replays, because they're kinda good.)

    * Just saw an interesting post from the AJC's Chip Towers about not seeing that last run on SportsCenter on Saturday. I'd read about it and watched all of SportsCenter and College Football Final to see the play, and had to wait until it was on YouTube. Unreal.

Thanks for the WOXY linkage man, and I agree about the bad football. That was an ugly **** game...

    re: concert etiquette

it's still ok to shout out requests for Summer of 69 at a Ryan Adams show right?

I, for one, am absolutely psyched about the football season. I mean the Bengals haven't been good, well ever really. But now they're bringing back the funny. They haven't won a lot since Marvin has been here, but it's just been mostly frustrating. They haven't been abysmal, but they haven't been good either. This season is going to be hilarious! I think I saw the ghosts of Dave Shula and Al Roberts' doppleganger on the sideline discussing some of the brilliant antics they are going to bust out the season in some spectacular losing efforts.
