From the Reds:

2B Brandon Phillips on Friday will have surgery during which a pin will be inserted into his right index finger so that it heals properly.

Phillips suffered the broken finger in last night’s game at Milwaukee when he was hit by a pitch on a bunt attempt. He was examined today in Cincinnati by Reds medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek.

The surgery will be performed by Kremchek and hand specialist Dr. Andrew Markewicz.

Phillips will not play again the rest of this season.
