Bengals receiver Chris
Henry said he didn't need a reminder, but the suspension of his friend
and former college teammate Adam "Pacman" Jones of the Cowboys
reinforced his need to stay out of trouble.
"I'm focused on my
career and family right now, that's keeping me straight," Henry said on
Wednesday. "I'm not trying to waste my career, this is my last
opportunity, so I'm going to do everything I'm supposed to be doing."
On
Tuesday, Jones was suspended for a minimum of four games following a
fight with his bodyguard at a Dallas hotel. The suspension could be the
final straw in his NFL career.
"I was surprised, I talked to
(Jones) and he didn't expect to get anything, he said everything was
fine," said Henry, who was Jones' teammate at West Virginia.
Henry
was suspended for four games to begin the season after violating the
league's personal conduct policy. Henry was suspended for the first
eight games of the 2007 season as well.
NFL commissioner Roger
Goodell had reinstated Jones in August following a 17-month suspension
for various off-the-field problems. In a statement released with
Tuesday's suspension, Goodell said Jones had shown a "disturbing
pattern of behavior and clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set
for your continued participation in the NFL."
Henry said he
knows there's a short leash for himself and players like himself and
Jones who have repeatedly gotten in trouble off the field.
"I'm
pretty sure it’s like that for everyone in the league, but in Adam's
situation and my situation, he really doesn’t want to hear anything
with our name in it negative off the field," Henry said.
Henry, who has been arrested six times since being drafted out of West Virginia, said he's learned his lessons.
"I'm
concentrating on football and off the field with my family every day,
that's all I'm concentrating on," Henry said. "(Goodell) ain't going to
have any problems from Chris Henry."

Interesting that these guys were teammates at WVU... I'm not sure what that says about their program there in the past.
