    Mickens

Sunday, September 21, 2008, 07:19 AM EST [General]

If Johnathan Joseph can't go for the Bengals, I'm serious, is Mike Mickens of UC a better player than the options the Bengals have behind him ?

It's not just his 72 yard pick to the house against Miami. He's had a much better college career than any of the other options.

Big time numbers for Pike.  With Akron up next, he can get comfortable being the man for UC.

Les MIles is great !  An onside kick when you never expect it and a half-back option for a TD is why LSU beat Auburn.  You never know what he's going to do.

Tony Gonzolas can become the number one receiving tight end in NFL history today.  To bad he's playing on another bad KC team.

Don't look now but Dantonio is doing a terrific job at Michigan State.  Tailback Javon Ringer brings his offensive line with him to talk to the meda after they stick it to Notre Dame.

Boise State beating Oregon 37-32 on the road shows beating Oklahoma a few years ago was no accident.  They are good again.  3--0 with a redshirt freshman QB.

Wonder what would have happened against USC if Pryor was the QB for Ohio State from day one ?

Coco's numbers saving games is much better since that slump.  His fastball is back.  Why he doesn't throw inside more baffles me.  Especially with that heat.  Batters seem to lean in.

I'm really excited about the REDS for next year.  I can't help it.  I love baseball, and I see potential.

Glen Coffee runs 87 yards for a TD for Alabama.  Two tight ends in tight on the left side.  They had one more blocker than defender to take care of.  Saban at Alabama is smart.

IF CHAD CAN MAKE ONE GREAT BIG PLAY, MAYBE A SECOND HAPPENS AND TODAY IS INTERESTING.  NOTICE I SAID IF.

Have some fun with THELOTD.COM during the game and before.  We'll talk about it this morning on the Countdown To Kickoff beginning at 11:30.

    Harang And Today

Thursday, September 18, 2008, 05:00 AM EST [General]

Wow !  The Horse is back.  Harang was big time last night.  Get pitching like you saw from Harang and then Bronson the night before, and you don't need a ton of runs.  I was glued to the tube watching the ace of the Reds.

To the man who many think is the ace, and the battle he faces with a former RED.  Don't let it fool you, there is something extra going on between the Cardinals and Reds.  Makes it fun.

Trouble between the two started in the fifth inning of the Reds' 7-3 win on Aug. 17. Lohse batted in the top half with two runners on base, and Volquez threw up-and-in to him. Volquez (16-5, 3.22 ERA) led off the bottom half and Lohse's first pitch was high-and-tight, leading plate umpire Greg Gibson to warn both teams.

    Chad's Confidence and NY Times

Thursday, September 18, 2008, 04:57 AM EST [General]

Chad says he's lost some of his confidence.  He's playing like it.  Surprising he would say it.

To his name change. The best for the Giants would NEVER do what Chad did.

"It would be embarrassing to my family," Burress said

    Fire Marvin ?

Wednesday, September 17, 2008, 05:05 PM EST [General]

Ralph Vacciano writes for the NY Daily News as the beat man covering the NY Giants.   Ralph says that he would fire Marvin.  And, he's "shocked" that Carson is playing so poorly.

Jeff, one of the many terrific callers in the morning, and it seems like we are getting more and more good callers which makes it even more fun to do the show, brings up a terrific point.

How would Big Ben be if he was playing for the Bengals.  Would the NFL experts still say that he is one of the top 5 QB's ?

And, if Carson were a Steeler, would he be considered right now one of the top 3 QB's ?

Let's chew on that in the morning.

ESPN's fantasy man says that Carson is his biggest disappointment this season.

This morning, I gave out a new award.  The first annual Cutman in the season comeback player of the year award.  I gave it to Bronson.  His comeback after that awful performance in Toronto is one of the best I've ever seen.

His confidence is great.  As we've mentioned before, Dick Pole really helped out changing the grip on his sinker.

Jason came up with a great candidate.  I forgot about this until he sent it.

    Cutman,

Caught a piece of your show this morning on Bronson's comeback over this year and you asked for other players who have done similar feats.  The only one that came to mind for me was Albert Belle when he played for the White Sox.  1998 was the year.  He started out hurt and terrible in the first half of the season, then finished on a second half tear that may never be matched again. I tried to find the first half/second half stats, but only found the full year.  God Bless the internet!!!   I found the splits:  Unbelievable!!!  He did it in 9 less games in the second half!!!
