When your ace goes to the mound; your baseball team is supposed to win and that is what happened Tuesday night at 5/3 Field as the Dayton Dragons (26-18) beat the Fort Wayne Wizards (San Diego, 20-24) by a final of 2-1. Jeremy Horst, who has appeared in 32 games for the club (6-2, 2.68 ERA) has a total of 90 punch outs in 80.2 innings.
Tuesday night he hurled 5 full inning of six hit, one run baseball. That run came in the top of the fifth inning off of the bat of Lance Zawadzki. The Dragons countered in the bottom of the sixth when Jason Bour (pictured above) homered with Brandon Waring on second to put the Fire Breathers in front for good.
Curtis Partch (W,3-8) and Aguido Gonzalez (S, 2nd) then came on to pitch four innings of shutout baseball. The win gives Dayton a full six game lead on Fort Wayne for the final playoff spot and shrinks their magic number to 21 with 26 games remaining in the regular season.
Series continues on Wednesday at 5/3 with a 7pm start time.
