That was the big news of the press conference. Jasper has not made a decision as of yet and is homesick, but has not yet fully decided to leave. Morakinyo is looking at a transfer for playing time issues.
Brett Dawson of the Courier Journal has this quote from Gillispie:
"He's a little homesick right now," Gillispie said. "He hasn't made any kind of decision, but we definitely need him over here. We want him. I think he'll be a leader for our team. I think he's going to be an All-Southeastern Conference-type player next year if he can maintain his health, and we definitely don't need to lose him."
I completely concur....those insinuating yesterday that he was not a needed part of the team are out of their minds. Jasper is crucial to this team's success, especially next season. You can talk all you want about the players coming in....and I am excited about them. But none are certain to be able to replace Jasper. Getting him to stay is big.
- Gillispie apparently also addressed the Oklahoma State stuff, but the guy I spoke with didnt have the details on that....only said that he would not say he never spoke with them.
- Here are Gillispie's comments on JUCO signee Kevin Galloway:
"I am really excited about Kevin," said Gillispie. "He is a multi-dimensional player. He is tall, long and athletic, and he has experience. His team was considered to be the best junior college team in the country last year, even though they suffered an upset in the regional. I think he is going to give us speed. He has the ability to pass the basketball and I think he will put stats up in a lot of different areas. He's a good shooter. He's probably not as confident as he needs to be, but that is one of the things he will continue to work on before he gets here. I think he will be a major addition to our team."
UK is expected to sign College of Southern Idaho guard Kevin Galloway, who committed to the Wildcats last month.
UK is still recruiting a number of players and could sign more during the period, which will end on May 21.
Among those still showing interest in the Wildcats are College of Southern Idaho forward Juan Pattillo, Southwestern Illinois Community College center Josh Harrellson, Upper Marlboro (Md.) center Maurice Sutton, Champaign (Ill.) guard Verdell Jones, Portland (Ore.) guard Paul McCoy, Weatherford (Texas) Community College guard Roderick Flemings and Ater Majok, a Sudan native living in Australia.
Among the interested observers at the Riverwar high school all-star game at Chaifetz Arena on Saturday was Josh Harrelson. He's the 6-9 center/forward from St. Charles who played last season at Southwestern Illinois College and has finally gotten a release from the letter of intent he signed with Western Illinois.
Harrelson's release isn't yet official - he expects to get through the NCAA clearinghouse on Monday - but when it is, he said he's looking at Kentucky, SLU, Missouri, Purdue and Indiana. He was going to make his SLU visit on Saturday, but had to push it back because he hadn't been cleared yet. So he'll go to Kentucky next weekend, then SLU the week after that. He said he wasn't sure if he would make any trips after that.
