Ya know, I'm more excited about these playoffs than anytime the past 3-4 years. I love the fact the Rays not only made the playoffs, but outdid the Hated Yankees and the Red, Smelly Sox. I still can't believe it happened. There's hope for the Orioles.
Okay, maybe not.
I'm also excited about the Cubs AND White Sox being in the postseason together for the first time since Roosevelt was president—as in, Teddy Roosevelt, the rough rider. Wouldn't kill a bear and blah-blah. That was also the year of the great San Francisco fire and the invention of the radio signal, which brings us Marty Brennaman for 35 seasons and counting. I can do without his son, however. That girlie laugh drives me nuts. So does his harping. Marty's entitled; Thom is not.
I was also just 37 years old in 1906. I bought a Ford Model N for $500. It's still in the garage. I get the damnedest looks when I pull into long-term parking at Dulles.
Anyway, there's a lot of great storylines in this year's playoffs. One we should all care about: Griffey really deserves one last shot at the ring. Say what we will about Junior and his stay in Cincinnati, but a player that great should have a ring.
So, for those who want to talk ball during the playoffs, what say you? . . .

Hmmmm you talk of your age and your post number is 1776, any coincidence? I am also glad Jr. made it to the post season. With his career he deserved to get at least a taste of it. When he retires, would he have considered his career complete even if he had not made it to the post season? I guess it is nice both Chicago teams made the playoffs, but I will be rooting for the Rays. Little kid kicked big bullies a**. Bring on the discussions and stories. Need something to fill the void till spring training begins. Know it may be cliche', but you have been around the Reds since the very first team, who would be on your All history Reds team? |

As a former Devil Rays season ticket holder I am really jacked up that the newly evolved Rays are sticking up the **** od these damn yankee fans(the ball team not that band with Ted Nugent and the guys from Styx) in FL. For years the only way to sell out the Trop was to have the Yanks or Bo Sox come to town.
I am so happy for JR and very conflicted in the Rays series. JR has been my favorite guy in the league since I had summer school with his brother Craig in the late 80's right after he was drafted. I'm not sure whether to pull for my current home team and second favorite team or pull for Griffey in what could be his last shot.
If anyone remembers Marty Mcfly's trip to the future, I think it was 2010 and the WS was the Cubs and Florida. It looks like that unlikely scenerio could sort of happen a couple years early.

Well, since the Reds are done (not Dunn), I'm going with one of my favorite all time managers. Joe Torre. I've had the pleasure of a couple conversations with the man and I can tell you there can't be many any better. Just a great guy. So I'm hoping the (I can't believe I'm typing this) Dodgers and White Sox square off in the series. LA is usually pretty warm in October and Chi-town pretty cold. Joe Cool vs Explosive Ozzie. Man Ram and Pierzinski could square off. A series full of contrasts. Of course it will likely be the other two teams from those cities who get it done. In a 162 game season... the records rarely lie.

Although I would like to see the formerly hapless Rays win, this year (at this point in the playoffs), my sentimental favorite is the White Sox solely because I would like to see Jr get a ring. I would love for the Cubs to get blown out in the first round. Other than those mismatched wishes, I just hope it's neither the RedSox nor the Cubs--anyone else I can take without too much angst. Thought it was great that one of the big plays in the 1-0 ChiSox-Twins game yesterday was the defensive play by Jr in CF

I'll also be rooting for the Rays. They drop the "devil" moniker and make the playoffs. Coincidence? I've never been a Chisox fan so it'll be tough for me to root for them, but I wouldn't mind seeing Junior get a ring. He's been clutch in the playoffs in the past, and was again last night.

Champ - By the way, great signature line. It's perfect that it gets repeated everytime you post.
