Uh boy. Now that the Smelly, Red Sox have two world championships this century, is there a whinier bunch than Cubs fans?
I don't hate the Cubs and I don't hate Cubs fans. In fact, there's simply no better place to watch a baseball game than Wrigley Field. But when things are going bad for the Cubs in a year when they are having success, uh boy. The turncoats come out in droves like the past couple of days. On the brink of a second straight 3-and-out when they play at the Dodgers tonight, fingers are pointing in every direction. Said one Cubs blogger on the Chicago Sun-Times site: "I think the Cubs may have peaked too early . . . around 1908."
Cubs fans across the blogosphere ain't taking prisoners.
On Soriano: "I say we wrap Soriano in heating pads, send him to the plate and tell him it's July." On Dempster: ". . . a choker at heart. Proved it during his lackluster stint as a closer." On Lee: "The aging Derrick Lee for many years only gets hits and RBIs when they don't count." On Soriano batting leadoff: "Why the hell is Soriano leading off? He strikes out way too much, has a bad OBP, and can't steal bases anymore." On Piniella: "I thought this manager is supposed to know how to win in the playoffs." Does any of this sound familiar? Of course it does. Almost word for word. Soriano=Patterson and Griffey. Lee=Dunn. Dempster=Dempster. Piniella=Baker. Now, I don't know of any blogs dedicated solely to hating the Reds (I have suspected John Fay's blog disguised as such), but I did a search with the words Why Cubs Fans Suck and Google rolled out 1.06 million relations. Check out cubssuckclub.com and cubs-suck.com. It's hilarious and makes many Cub posters look . . . well . . . like Reds fans. Or vice-versa.
Anyway, I'd rather see the Cubs in the NLCS than the Dodgers. A Phillies-Cubs match-up would be terrific with each team's fans going bonkers. It would be great drama and TV, along with setting a stage for one of the two to continue being called chokers by their fans. It's a can't miss! Said another Cubs blogger: "We are lousy fans who feel entitled to win." Sounds just like Red, Smelly Sox fans, pre-2004. |

Cubs fans suck all the time Mr R. My family has married into some. Nothing worse than when the Cubs come to town. I was in town for a trade show a couple years back while the cubs made a visit and they made my hotel stay miserable. My best friend is from Chicago as well, I am fortunate he is a south sider. Redlegs, how can I tell you from the imposters on fay's blog? Also, can anyone tell me what name Jack is using these days. Man that guys sucks.
My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die...

Hey everybody! I've been sidelined with sick kids, but still trying to pay a little bit of attention to the post-season. I hope *somebody* puts up a fight--how flippin' dull to have everything decided in three games. But then that puts me in the odd predicament of having to root for Cubs and Brewers. Yikes.

You can always root for the Angels to overcome the hated Stinky Sox since they too are down 2-0 (or the White Sox, although it is hard to put them in the underdog role vs. the Rays) Hope your kids are feeling better now --at least they didn't get sick while the power was out (small consolation, I know)
