at least there's a lot of room to improve!
a reliable right handed hitter (or two) would be nice (drew stubbs?).
let's hope Walt has a plan - and the cash to follow through.

Yes indeed, Reds fans, you can hear Don Meredith singing. Losing 2 of 3 at home, to a team with (now) the 2nd worst road record in the National League is a great-big-flashing-blazing-garish neon sign that the good guys are less than a mediocre team. Walt, start your jockeying for next year!! How do the beat writers do it?

I like baseball. I love the Reds, but after these two pathetic losses I must admit to being a little less interested in daily blogging than before. How do the beat writers, day after day, put out? Do even the players lose interest?
Wha? Homer Good, Junior Bad??

I HATE losing data! What I tried to write before I screwed up everything and lost my post, chock-full of priceless pearls of wisdom, was this: WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? JUNIOR & JANISH with run-scoring errors? A pitch-efficient Homer Bailey who was civil in the locker room ? A Bailey that gave up only two earned runs and qualified for a real Quality Start? The only way I know I'm not dreaming is that the Reds were shut out and Bailey's error is one that his participation in PFP may prevent. Looking forward, I'm fearful that my prediction of reaching .500 ball on 7/27 is in serious jeopardy. The Braves play so well at home, and are looking to return the favor of a sweep that I see this turning into a disastrous 1&7 roadtrip. And, finally, the Cyclones are ECHL champs. Cincinnati has it's first championship in any professional sport since the 1990 Reds, or am I still dreaming?????? Volkwezz = 1276 pithces, the new Rubber Arm?

Jim Scott's pronunciation, not mine. Anyway, he had another win, okay THAT'S not news, and another 100+ pitch effort. He has had 12 starts so far, 75 IP, and 1276 pitches thrown. This is his 1st complete season, he pitched in Winter Ball, can he keep it up? I don't know, but I do remember there was a guy, Pedro Bourbon, who pitched so often and so well he earned the name Rubber Arm. Yes, Bourbon was only a reliever. But Volquez does get 4 days off (barring 18 inning games) between starts. Let's hope Volquez's arm is made of strong stuff.
