Any Day at Any Minute
Friday, May 9, 2008, 12:31 PM EST [Reds]
Nice piece from Mr. Mark Sheldon, http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080508&content_id=2662902&vkey=news_cin&fext=.jsp&c_id=cin. A well-constructed strory that perfectly demonstrates why he and Mr. Rosecrans make a living writing about sports and why I write (badly, and for no compensation other than my own warped amusement) about they're being good. Moving on from my dirth of writing skills, the article has a great quote from Dusty, "We're in a total funk right now. But hey, the beauty of the game is that any day at any minute, if you keep working, things will come together for no apparent reason. A break here, a broken bat hit there, and bam. That's how it usually starts -- something small." Hope springs eternal in this fan's heart (to totally bastardize Alexander Pope's phrase), and apparently in a manager's, too. Even Jocketty is quoted as saying "I still think the season is salvageable." Could the series win against the Cubs be the beginning of a rise to .500 ball? It will take only a winning streak of 8 games (7 more) to get the Reds there. Stranger things have happened. And that's the problem. All of us know stranger things have happened, and that's why we hope. That, and the whole Sports Psychology thing, see the article to which Amy posted a link (http://www.thelotd.com/amy/blog/2008/05/04/fan_psychology_article). What's the point of following the Deads all the while hoping for a turn around? It makes us feel as if we're part of the team, part of the braintrust, and I'm OK with that, I'm a Reds fan! Tags:

Why Steve Phillips is a FORMER GM
Thursday, May 8, 2008, 04:25 PM EST [Reds]
and also why i'll never be one http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3385066 -- This is the link from Lance McAlister's blog. 1. My guess is Wayne Krivsky was working on a Jr. deal and there were no takers for what Krivsky valued Jr. And Josh Fields, are you kidding me? EE is at least that good offensively, and has shown himself capable of being far better. And if you get Quentin, where's the roster spot for Jay Bruce? 2. I agree with moving Dunn, but the man who signs the paychecks doesn't. 'Nuff said. 3. Good luck trading Arroyo, we'd be better off putting him on the DL and have him lift weights for two weeks. 4. An "Owner's Deal", are you kidding me? Don't teams pay GMs big bucks to keep things like this from happening? 5. Who doesn't love Freel's drive to excel? He's also one of the fan's favorites. While I can't stand stand his baserunning blunders, why trade him for another Matt Belisle??????? Tags:
Auf Weidersehen

The in-laws will be arriving today from Milwaukee. I am so pleased they're visiting, staying in my house, eating my food, and drinking my beer. Gawd, I'll need a helluva lot more beer (just for me for my sanity)! I'm sure they will keep me informed of the NL Central standings, smug jerks. In addition, I have to go into work Saturday and Sunday. In one respect it's a good thing because it gets me away from She's parents; but, to do so I have to work. Sigh...I really need to win the lottery. It's at times like this I wish I had vicious, ferocious, man-eating dogs. So, goodbye for now. I won't have the time/permission to blog until after they leave. Tags:
