    A month wasted...

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 12:14 PM EST [General]

Its been a month since my last post and I've got tons of stuff I'm thinking about:

    • Entourage has come back strong this year.  The key is that they've really stopped focusing on its supporting characters and gone back to having the group as a whole.  E is a great balance for the group and Ari may be the most entertaining character, but they aren't the show, just pieces.
    • Speaking of Wahlberg news, if you didn't see SNL this week, I really enjoyed this.
    • If Jim Tressel actually watched the LSU game last year, wouldn't he know that his team would be better with any other QB?
    • In the last 15 years, it hasn't been very good to be a Notre Dame game fan.  But getting absolutely no attention after starting to play "respectable" football is chincy.  Critics often hate ND because how backers always bring up history from over 20 years ago.  Shouldn't they also negate to base their expectations on this years team over the past 15?  Probably not.
    • Bama vs. LSU in Death Valley at night may be the most dangerous place in the nation...if your name is Nick Sabin.
    • IMy fiance been given a budget of $500 to go to Tampa next weekend should the series reach 6 games to root on my Sox.  Got me thinking...How much would you pay for your dream mancation?
    • Another poll:  Would you feel comfortable bringing a child under 14 to a Bengals game?  On the other side, would you feel comfortable dressing your child in a Bengals shirt?
    • I hope Bob Castellini doesn't have ESPN.  I'm afraid that if he sees any of these pieces they're running about how the Rays have gone from worst to first by spending no money, he may get some ideas.  In reality, the Rays have a team loaded with top draft picks, leftovers (Pena), and desperate hopes rewards (Kazmir for Victor Zambrano?).  These guys are about to get paid and its their talent that should be celebrated, not payroll.

    Gut Buster of the Week

Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 02:20 PM EST [General]

    8.27

I eat a lot of cheeseburgers.  In general, I eat a lot of food that isn't good for me.  No matter how much I try to work out, my love for fat-enriched food keeps me at a 35 inch waste.  So since I always write about Burgers of the Week, I thought I'd expand it to Gut Buster of the Week.

This weeks Gut Buster is my favorite burrito in town.  The Mad Max at Habanero's in Clifton is everything I love about huge burritos with actual individually.  The Mad Max features fried fish, a crispy slaw, hot salsas, and a side of the best tortilla chips this side of the Rio Grande.  The shirts worn by the staff say "corporate burritos suck."  I didn't realize how much they did until I tried one of the varieties of burritos, taco, and other fare they are serving up at Habanero's.  Best of all, for a burrito, chips, salsa, and drink, I paid the same amount I would have for the run-of-the-mill crap they're slinging at Chipotle.

If you bite Brett Favre in the dark, can you see a spark?

Thursday, August 7, 2008, 01:06 PM EST [General]

Brett Favre may be a life savior.

I'm thinking that by changing teams just days before he dons the Madden 09 cover in a Packers jersey, Brett Favre may have reversed the Madden cover jinx.  Future cover faces rejoice in not going down in the Ray Lewis, Eddie George, and Mike Vick chronicles!

    River Rants 8.4

Monday, August 4, 2008, 09:21 PM EST [General]

I have some quick rants today...

I feel bad for Kenny Irons.  I was a big fan of this at Auburn and its tough to see someone not get a chance on a team that's waited around for Chris Perry.  If the Bengals truly believe that Perry can come back and succeed, then they should feel bad about cutting someone twice in a week who never got the chance that Perry has.

Its upsetting to see the Reds play meaningless games in August and September again.  Lance may have said it best when the rest of the season should be viewed as extended Spring Training for 2009.  I believe Chris Dickerson has been a "prospect" for 8 years.  Let's see why.

The last 2 fights I've watched have really sealed for me why I love boxing so much.  Cotto was seemingly unbeatable.  He changed his style to, I assume, show his diversity over a taller opponent.  The result, he lost in the 11th.  Zab Judah finally shows the desire he was missing when he was 25-0.  Only now he shows that because he's 36-6.  Sweet science all around.

I know my Sox won't repeat because our big trade deadline acquisition was the most boring Canadian since Alan Thicke.  Talk about 180.

I'm very sad to hear of the death of Skip Carey.  I've never liked the Braves because they were seemingly always on.  But his draw was always so decriptive and captivating.  I hear a bit of him in Brantley as well.

Somebody should make sure that Aaron Rodgers hasn't spoken with Jeff Gilooli.
