UC/Princeton product promoted
I'm told the Cubs have promoted Josh Harrison from Boise to Peoria. He should be in uniform for Friday night's game vs Dayton.
Josh hit .351 in 33 games after being drafted.....he has a .970 OPS with 23 walks and only 12 k's

Yankees interested in Dunn
ESPN
Even with the trading deadline less than a week away, the Reds have had very little action on Adam Dunn. But one club that spoke with the Reds says the Yankees have explored what it would take to plug Dunn into their revolving outfield/DH vacancies. The Reds, however, are continuing to ask teams for one top-of-the-line prospect and one second-tier prospect. And that's probably more than the Yankees are inclined to give up for Dunn.

UC football news
CINCINNATI - With a little more than one month left until the start of the 2008 University of Cincinnati football season, season ticket sales have reached the 11,000 mark - the highest in UC history.
Last week, the popular Bearcats Lair section sold out for the second consecutive season. This week, season ticket sales crossed the 11,000 plateau, which betters the 2007 season-ticket total of 8,186.

Let me get this straight
All hell breaks loose at the minor league game in the 1st inning.....15 players and both managers are ejected.( VIDEO Careful of language from crowd) It takes an hour to sort things out. Then the Midwest League President decides rather than have pitchers fill spots in the lineup by playing the outfield, the umpires should reinstate the ejected playears to finish the game. Huh?
How about suspending the game and sending everyone home to allow things to cool?

Did you know?
Peoria manager Carmelo Martinez is the former ML OF/1B. He leaped to field Pete Rose's hit #4192 on one bounce in left field that night for the Padres. Martinez is the Chiefs hitting coach and filled in as manager for Ryne Sandberg who is at Hall of Fame weekend. Martinez played with the Reds in 1991. He homered in his first major leauge at-bat with the Cubs in 1983. His homer was off of former Reds pitcher Frank Pastsore. He also hit the ball for the Pirates in Game 6 of the 1990 NLCS that Glenn Braggs went over the wall to catch and save the game and possibly the series for the Reds.

Bengals waive Irons
The Bengals today waived HB Kenny Irons, under the category of Waived/Failed Physical. Irons failed the team physical earlier this week.
Irons, from Auburn, was Cincinnati's second-round choice in the 2007 draft. He has been unable to play or practice since suffering a torn left knee ligament (ACL) in the '07 preseason opener last Aug. 9 at Detroit. He spent the '07 season on Cincinnati's Reserve/Injured list.

17 ejected, fan injured in ugly Dragons-Chiefs brawl
(AP)
That led to an argument between the two managers, and when Martinez pushed Scott, the benches emptied. Several fights between players broke out behind home plate. Castillo's ball went into the stands, and Menchaca jumped on Castillo's back.

Prosser a person, coach to remember
News Observer
"Skip really cared, and that's what made him so special in my opinion," Gaudio said. "He had as much time for the average person as he did for a player or coach. That's a special trait. He never got to the point that he thought he was more important than anyone else. There are so many things I'll remember about him, but nothing more than that one thing. He was just the same person day after day."

Sorry to say, Big 10 scheduling a joke
Wisconsin State Journal
The lack of competition in September has a dual effect: It fails to prepare teams for tough bowl opponents and doesn't provide critics with a basis for comparison. With few intersectional showdowns, they have only bowl performances to go on, and the Big Ten is a sorry 14-24 since 2002.

WWDD: What would Dusty do?
Philly Enquirer
"It's unfortunate, but rules are rules," said Jamie Moyer, who was solid in seven innings, giving up two hits and one earned run. "I commend Charlie for standing up for the rules that he has. I think we all need to be accountable to that. Each team has their own rules, and they play not only for their managers and their coaching staff, but they play amongst their teammates.

49ers legends talk to Buckeyes
Cleveland Plain Dealer
It was no shock that the three-time defending conference champs were picked for a four-peat. Since spring practice, OSU coach Jim Tressel has been wary of boring his veteran Buckeyes with things they've heard and done before. So during the summer doldrums, Tressel decided to blind his players with Super Bowl rings, bringing in former San Francisco 49ers Rice, Lott, Joe Montana and Roger Craig to talk to the team. Tressel knows former 49ers owner Ed DeBartolo Jr., a Youngstown native.

What is your favorite sports venue?
CNNSI
Every sports venue touches visitors. Some because they are old. Or new. Some because they are remote. Or in the middle of a city. Some because they are comfortable. Or not. Then there is an entirely different category of venue that seizes a visitor's soul and fills it with a sense of time and past glory. These are the venues with a pulse, and Churchill Downs is such a place.

I just felt compelled

As far as the Wisconsin State Journal article, that's the type of article you get from a "small town " paper. Except for last year, I'll put OSU's schedule against anyone in the country with the likes of Texas, USC, etc. while "the mighty SEC" plays a host of cream puffs, with everyone playing Directional and Tech schools. Although as a conference they have proven themselves in bowl games, there are few that actually step out of the SEC to play someone (does Florida playing Miami & Florida St. really count?).
