    Reaction to Cueto
I asked Will Carrol, of Baseball Prospectus for his reaction to the diagnosis of Johnny Cueto.
Will's specialty is pitchers and injuries:
"NOT good. If he's hyperextending, that's a mechanical flaw that will have to be corrected. If there's an upside it's that it's not ligament (yet) and would point to fatigue as the biggest causative."

Redeem Team could not have done it without you
    Jason Whitlock, Fox Sports

Our players needed a good ****-whipping.
They weren't mature or responsible enough to take care of the game that Jordan, Magic, Bird, Barkley, Malone, Stockton and The Admiral handed them in pristine condition. They didn't take their role as ambassadors seriously.
In Greece, they didn't represent the NBA or — to be perfectly honest — black people properly. The players were aloof, disconnected from the other athletes and unwilling to accept coaching or playing roles from Larry Brown.

    Reds news
    RHP Johnny Cueto’s
examination in Cincinnati today by team medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek revealed a posterior strain of his right elbow possibly due to hyperextension of that elbow.
He will be examined in Cincinnati again on Friday and will miss his next start, scheduled for Saturday against the Giants.
    RHP Homer Bailey’s
examination in Cincinnati today by Reds medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek revealed a mild sprain of the medial collateral ligament of his right knee.
He will miss his next start for Class AAA Louisville, scheduled for Thursday, and will be evaluated again by Kremchek at the end of the week.

    Is it just me
or does it already feel like December, the Bengals are 3-10 and we are looking towards the draft? I' ve never felt so much doubt and loss of hope so early in a Bengals season.
All the optimism faded so quickly.

    I've gotta tell ya
The image of Carson Palmer walking off the field with a towel over his head and blood all over his nose, mouth and chin was one of the more depressing scenes I've witnessed in a long time of following the Bengals. Was it me, or did he have a..."What the hell?"....look on his face most of the first half?
Whatever happened in the second half I didn't see it. I tuned out.

McCoy: "One of five worst professional baseball games ever played"
    Dayton Daily News
As far as the game goes, it was the Reds falling out of an ugly tree and hitting every branch on the way to the ground.
They made as many errors (five) as they had hits (five), they struck out 14 times. They walked nine Rockies, threw two wild pitches, committed a balk, perpetrated a passed ball and Corey Patterson made his daily baserunning blunder by getting picked off base.
The videotape is going to Cooperstown as one of the five worst professional baseball games ever played.

    For Bengals, need trumps resolve
    William Rhoden, NY Times
This was not only a disservice to Henry, who needs time away from the N.F.L. to sort out his life, but it was also an embarrassment to Lewis, who, in a recent Sports Illustrated article, declared that he was drawing the line, taking a stand against disruptive behavior. With ownership's blessing - he thought - Lewis had agreed to shut the door on Henry. Now he had to take Henry back.

    Redeemed indeed
Even if you don't like the NBA, find a tape of the Gold medal game between Team USA and Spain. I recorded it and watched it Sunday afternoon. What a game! Spectacular game and very cool scene afterwards. The best Olympic basketball game I've ever watched.
Team USA won 118-107. It was a two point game with 8:00 remaining. Bryant took over at the 8-minute mark and accounted for like 15 points in a row in one stretch....great shooting and passing. Dwyane Wade had 27. Team USA led 104-99 with about 3:30 left when Kobe Bryant delivered a dagger to Spain by hitting a four point play.
The play was high energy....if not great defensively. Spain lost to Team USA by 37 in pool play but was very good in the finals. That Fernandez, Navarro and Gasol were something else.
The sense of pride, "team", commitment and accomplishment from the U.S. was something neat to watch. The joy and tears from the players as the anthem played was real.
The team did the "bounce" at center court. Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James joined the chants of "USA, USA" at midcourt. Afterwards the players draped their medals around the neck of Coach K.
As the game ended, almost all members of the team walked across the court to shake hands with Doug Collins, doing the game for NBC. Collins and the U.S. got jobbed out of gold vs Russia in 1972. That was very cool to see!
USA basketball is back on the national stage as the king. It shows what can be done when you have someone with a vision/plan (Jerry Colangelo) a hell of a coach (Coach K) and players decidated to a cause. All those players are "the man" on their team. They all accepted their role on this team. Fun stuff to watch. I just wish the game had been on in primetime in the U.S. Did you watch?

    Change in plans
I'm told UC fans will no longer be allowed to mingle/celebrate/hangout with players on the field after games. The change comes from the Big East as a new policy they have put into place. Details to follow.

Paul Brown would have frowned at son's moves
    San Diego Union Tribune
It must have occurred to you as it did to me after Mike Brown stunningly, and I think wrongly, returned Chris Henry to the good graces of the Cincinnati Bengals: his father would not have done that.

    Bengals news
Bengals QB Carson Palmer underwent a brief procedure today for treatment of the nose injury he suffered last night against New Orleans at Paul Brown Stadium. Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said the injury will not affect Palmer's readiness for the Sept. 7 regular season opener at Baltimore. Palmer is listed as questionable for the preseason finale this Thursday at Indianapolis.
"Carson is feeling fine," Lewis said. "He suffered a small crack in one of the nose bones. The bone was gently put back into place this morning under local anesthetic."
The Bengals medical staff reported that the procedure took less than 10 minutes.
If Palmer does not play at Indianapolis, fourth-year QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will make his first Bengals preseason start.

    Business 101
Saturday afternoon Casey and Peyton opened up their first joint business venture.
A lemonade stand, with cookies and popcorn.
They set the cost of each item at 25-cents. I made them a conversion chart for making change for a dollar and taped it on the table.
    Hightlights:
*Five minutes after opening: Peyton "Why is nobody coming?"
*Seven minutes after opening: Peyton "Can I eat one of the cookies?"
*Twenty minutes after opening: Casey "Why doesn't everyone stop when we yell popcorn, cookies, lemondade?"
They operated the stand from noon to 2pm and collected $12.95.
I divided up the money and presented each with $6.35. There was a quarter left over....Casey said, " Keep it, that is for the supplies."

As Herman's Hermits sang in Henry the 8th- Second Verse, same as the first. The second half wasn't much better. The way that people cheered when Fitzpatrick came on to the field, it was like they had given up on Carson Palmer and the first string offense.

If I'm Marvin Lewis, I'm NOT PLAYING CARSON AT ALL in the 4th pre-season game if RUDI, TJ, and CHAD are not out there on the field with him. There is just no point to it. If I hadn't been at the stadium, I would have kept track on how many times Carson Palmer threw to his CHECK DOWN receiver.

I was amazed at how terrible the offensive line was the entire game. It was like watching a video game... Carson at times looked as though he had happy feet.

I'm not sure who is in their contract year on this team but, if the Bengals don't address the offensive line in the draft, they don't deserve our money and support. Instead of bringing Chris Henry into the fold, they need to find the FATTEST GUYS in the CITY and let them come out for the team and TEACH THEM TO BLOCK :) *I wish it was that easy*
