Bengals news
The Bengals today waived CB Ethan Kilmer from the Reserve/Injured list. Kilmer, a third-year player from Penn State, suffered a thigh injury in training camp on July 31 and had reverted to Cincinnati’s R/I list after clearing waivers on Aug. 21.

Urgent...need your help
I've always considered my audience kind of an extended family.
You guys helped my family during Casey's battle with leukemia with your thoughts, prayers, well wishes, cards etc. I have learned of trouble for a loyal listener to the show....Mike in Fairfield. Mike has run into a bad family situation and is trying to get back on his feet.
Mike has lost his apartment and has been living in a Sharonville Motel for three weeks. He is out of money. He has no car. He has only two bags of clothes and belongings to his name. He will be evicted from the motel tomorrow at 11am when he can't pay for another week. He is expecting financial help by mail in the next week or two.
But he fears his next stop will be a homeless shelter tomorrow after 11am.
I talked to him this afternoon. He doesn't sound good. He needs help. He doesn't really want to ask for it. I've only met Mike once...during the trivia showdown with him and Hammy two years ago...but I consider him a friend.
Mike has called my show and others for years and has been a very loyal listener.
I am going to stop by and see him after the show. My family is going to take him some groceries and help with the Motel situation as best we can.
Consider this a rally cry. I hope to have more info soon on how you might be able to help.

Chad calls out "the monster"/Mike Brown?
C. Trent's blog
"I have my own little philosophy on what's going on. And I broke it down like this: Never, ever, ever, ever go against the monster, because the monster always wins. Get it? So y'all put that in your own perspective and you'll understand where I'm coming from and why things are going the way it's going right now."

What if BK coached the Bengals?
Bill Koch, Enquirer
I've had this thought more than once during the past few weeks while watching the Bengals on TV after covering a UC game. What if Brian Kelly were coaching the Bengals? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has asked that question lately.

Cincinnati: SS Chinedum Ndukwe. The winless Bengals have sorely lacked impact defensive plays but Ndukwe has provided a few of them. Starting the past four games in place of the injured Dexter Jackson (thumb), Ndukwe is atop the team's defensive rankings in sacks (one) and interceptions (one) to go along with 26 tackles.

Steelers have best fans in NFL
CNNSI
The news out of Jacksonville Monday morning that approximately 25 percent of the fans for Sunday night's Steelers-Jags contest were waving yellow Terrible Towels came as no surprise to me. The Steelers have the most dominant fan base in the National Football League and their ability to consistently travel, en masse, and infest other team's stadiums gives the Steelers a competitive advantage that no other franchise can claim.

Remember this former Reds pitcher?
Tampa Tribune
"The Incredible Hulk," Anderson said. "Grant is 180 degrees different off the field. He's a nice, likable guy. But on the mound, he's clinically crazy. When danger arises, he goes off. His eyes and face tighten up. He's challenging himself, challenging hitters. He's the Hulk. Yeah, he might as well rip his shirt off and turn green."

Time to cash out on Bengals
Paul Daugherty, Enquirer
If you've been waiting for a reason to give up your tickets or boycott the games or do whatever you think might sound a note of your displeasure with the Brown family, your wait is over. Ticket line or bread line is not a difficult choice. When nobody has $7 for a beer, beer won't cost $7.

How is the economy affecting the average sports fan?
CNNSI
"People across the country are seeing their disposable income being whittled away," says UNC Charlotte economist Craig Depken. "So they're beginning to ask themselves: Do I really need to go? My guess is that if you stand out on some street corner and asked average people how many games they physically traveled to last year versus this year, you'd see a real difference."

Bengals as trade bait?
Yahoo Sports
* “He’s going to be a free agent. He’s going to get paid. The Bengals won’t pay him, which is a joke because he’s one of the few guys on that team you could even begin to call a leader.” Said another executive: “He’d be perfect in Indianapolis, but it won’t happen.”
*“I’m amazed how quiet he has been. Maybe that injury is worse than we thought. You know he wants out and he’s the most gifted receiver in the league. But the injury is an issue.”
*“They just signed him as a free agent (in the offseason), so I don’t think he’ll be available. But I think they realize he’s overrated. He’s purely a complementary player.”

UK football news
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Middle linebacker Micah Johnson, who has missed the last two games because of a high-ankle sprain, is expected to return to the starting lineup in Saturday’s game vs. South Carolina, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.
Brooks said that Braxton Kelley, who has started the last two games at middle linebacker in Johnson’s place, will return to his role at weakside linebacker. Kelley’s move is timely, as weakside linebacker Michael Schwindel is expected to miss this week’s game because of an injured shoulder incurred at Alabama.
Brooks also noted that the other two players who are recovering from high-ankle sprains, defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin and quarterback/wide receiver Randall Cobb, also appear ready for action on Saturday.
