OSU DE done for the year
    AP

"I feel terrible for Lawrence," Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said. "I feel worse for Lawrence than for us. Guys can sprain an ankle and then you don't have them in that game, but for a guy who went through a surgery a year ago to have another surgery now -- unfortunately, that's what happens in these games."

    Holy crap! Look at this
    Cleveland Plain Dealer

"Massillon High School is ahead of us," observed Cincinnati Bengals President Mike Brown, the eldest son of legendary Massillon, Browns and Bengals coach Paul Brown. "We don't have one [an indoor practice facility]."
"My father believed in the football program being on the cutting edge. Today, this indoor facility certainly is on the cutting edge for high school football, and it's consistent with what he did many, many years ago."

Have mercy, high schools need to wake up!
    CNNSI
High school athletic associations across the country need to institute a "golden rule" in football and basketball beginning immediately. If a team, at any point in a game, leads by 50 or more points, the game should be stopped. This way, kids who are losing 50-0 or 64-14, can leave..........

    The Ultimate Man Cave
We are giving away a Man Cave Make Over during the Friday show this year at Buffalo Wings and Rings. You can register each Friday at the show.
A Man Cave is that special room in your house that is all yours.
It can be a basement, garage, office or workshop. It's the place you mark your territory for hobbies, TV and sports stuff. It's that place to "hang out", relax, unwind, leave the stress behind.
At the end of the Bengals season we will give away:
*Black Champion Pool Table with cue balls from Best Billiards
*50-inch plasma TV and surround system from Cincinnati Home Theatre
*Two Berkleine Recliners from Furniture Fair
Do you have a Man Cave at home? Tell me about it? What's in it? Got pictures? Send them to me and I'll post them on the blog. Have you always wanted a Man Cave?
How about we build the Ultimate Man Cave? What would we need?
I'll take the KISS pinball machine, a Farrah Fawcett poster and seats from Riverfront Stadium to start.

Bengals back to setting standard for misery

Since 1991, only 21 times has a team opened the season by losing its first six game. The Bengals have six of those; no other team has more than two.

Top 10 Biggest RB busts in NFL history
    The Love of Sports
    7. Cedric Benson
After rushing for 5,540 yards at the University of Texas, Benson was selected by the Bears with the fourth pick in the 2005 draft. He held out for all of training camp, failed to wrestle the starting job away from Thomas Jones and irritated teammates and coaches with his arrogance. He became the starter when Jones was traded to the Jets after the 2006 season, but didn't run with the same authority he had demonstrated in college and averaged just 3.4 yards per carry. The Bears cut the former Longhorn in June after his second alcohol related offense in five weeks. He's been given a second chance by the Bengals, but don't expect this unruly back to shake the bust label.

    Kentucky:
Never think the Cats are out of the NCAA chase, and a healthy Patrick Patterson and Jodie Meeks means Kentucky should have enough to get a bid.
Xavier: This program has become the class of the A-10 with solid recruiting that always seems to keep them one step ahead of the league the past two seasons and likely will in 2009, too.

    ESPN
"If you told me Tony Pike was going to be 100 percent, then he would be our starter," Kelly said. "He didn't do anything to lose the job. If he's not 100 percent, then Chazz Anderson has a very good chance of starting."

Parker returns to practice for Steelers
    Pittsburgh Post Gazette
Four of Parker's 23 100-yard rushing games have come against the Bengals.
"As an offensive unit we always ran the ball on them, no matter what," Parker said. "Even when they stopped us, we come back the next series and just run and run and run. That's been our M.O. against them and they'll just have to stop it."

I know; if you were among the 32,000 at The Nip on Saturday, you probably left the stadium a bit dissatisfied. The second half penalties were atrocious, and the 0-for-11 performance on third down is almost hard to believe. But beating a desperate Rutgers team with fourth string quarterback Chazz Anderson playing in his second college game is an impressive accomplishment.
