Corey Patterson Makes $3 Million?!?!?!

John Fay reports on his blog that according to USA Today, Corey Patterson makes a total of $3 million this year, as opposed to the $500k that was reported when the Reds signed him. Seems a little expensive for someone who has one of the lowest 2 OBP's in the Majors with over 3000 AB's.

True, but Freel signed his contract a couple years ago...in hindsight not a great contract, but to sign Corey Patterson THIS YEAR and pay him that much with Hopper and Freel ALREADY on the club and Jay Bruce waiting in the wings makes no sense.

Having Freel on the books doesn't bother me. He's also versatile enough to play the infield too.

The average MLB salary this year is around 2.8 million. Makes sense if you ask me.

Pay an average salary to a below average player? You're missing the point...The question is why pay him that much when we have other people already here that can hold the position down until Bruce is ready?
