Chuck Liddell travels with Dana White with hopes of fighting Wanderlei Silva in Prides tournament. He takes care of Alistair Overeem in this exciting fight but then lost to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson before being able to fight Wanderlei. For the record, Wanderlei Silva winded up beating Quinton Jackson.
'MMA Fans' - Video of the Day - Wagnney Fabiano vs Shad Lierley
Anybody see this fight this previous weekend on HDNet Fights? Wagnney Fabiano is known for his jiu jitsu but comes up with a big knockout here against Shad Lierley.
May 31st EliteXC will make it's MMA network television debut on CBS. There has been much speculation on who their headliner Kimbo Slice would fight. It's been confirmed that Kimbo Slice will face James "The Colossues" Thompson. Thompson is 6'5" 265 lbs. Soundlike a nice fight? No, not really. Thompson is just another big guy that has no skills that Gary Shaw can put in front of Kimbo and add to his knockout highlight reel. "The Colussus" has been KO'd or stopped due to strikes seven times in his career...might as well make it eight. Of course, people will continue to jump on this Kimbo banwaggon and talk of his raw power and how he's going to be the next heavyweight champ because he's trained by Bas Rutten. Not me, not until he stops fighting chumps like this and really challenges himself. Kimbo will not be a heavyweight champion in a major league organization like the UFC. EliteXC has no real big names which is why Kimbo has to fight guys like like this so they can build a star. To be a real legit champion it will take him a long time to get his ground game to a top level and he's not getting any younger. All that said I'm still looking forward to seeing EliteXC next month. I recognize Kimbo has talent and I enjoy a big knockout as much as the next guy.
Fedor will finally fight! And NO, it's not Randy Couture. Everyone wants to see Randy and Fedor but more importantly Fedor needs to fight someone period. Well, he will finally be in action in July. It's an intriguing match too. Tim Sylvia has not been the most exciting fighter lately but with his size and strength he always has a puncher's chance.
From Sherdog: "Top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will fight Tim Sylvia on July 19. The Russian mixed martial arts champion confirmed the bout to Sherdog.com on Tuesday. HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon declined to comment on the report, however sources indicate the bout will air on the Mark Cuban-owned network and is rumored to be promoted by Affliction, a clothing brand closely tied to MMA. "[Sylvia] is a good fighter, a strong fighter, the former UFC heavyweight champion, which is important," Emelianenko said via telephone from Stary Oskol, Russia. "I am looking forward to fighting him and training hard for this fight." While Emelianenko was short on details, Sherdog.com has learned through sources close to the negotiations that Fedor-Sylvia would headline a card tentatively scheduled for the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, the home base of HDNet Fights."
This is huge news and kind of puts an end to the soap opera talk about Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko.
So who wins? Does Sylvia stand a chance? Has Fedor taken too long off?
'MMA Fans' - Video of the Day - Joe Rogan explains life
Yesterday Joe Rogan came up in the 'MMA Fans' group. We agreed that Joe Rogan is cool and we like him but we also agreed that he's a little weird. This is funny...yeah, I know Joe Rogan is a standup comedian but he's dead serious in this video. It's quite entertaining and about a little over 6 minutes in I about fall out of my chair everytime I hear it. Listen to Joe Rogan explain life in today's video of the day. This goes to show how Rogan is a little 'off'.
