The UFC releases second fighter after their sub par performances at UFC 83.
Dana White cuts a second fighter from his contract after a less than impressive victory at UFC 83. Travis Lutter has confirmed that he has been released "effective immediately" from his UFC contract. Kalib Starnes was the first to be cut from his contract after his interesting track meet (I mean fight) with Nate Quarry. Travis Lutter seemed to be on his way back to another title fight if he could get past Rich Franklin at UFC 83. He was making big promises saying he was going to walk through Franklin and would "never be beat by Silva again". He was right about one thing, more than likely he'll never be beat by Anderson Silva again. Lutter was given a title shot against Silva after defeating Patrick Cote on TUF 4. He seemed to be on his way back until he failed to make weight for his title shot with Anderson Silva. It was the biggest fight of his life and had months to prepare for it. To not make weight was beyond unacceptable. Fans and apparently Dana White felt the same way. For his second straight fight Lutter came in out of shape and could not make it past the first round and still be able to hold his hands up. That did it for Dana White and the UFC. Enough was enough and now Travis Lutter is on his way out. He'll have to go running with Kalib Starnes (which may be good for him, maybe he can get his cardio up) and both can work on reviving their careers in another organization.
Well, where do I start? What a night of fights! Here are the results...some surprising, like the first fight of the night that tied the record in the UFC for quickest KO in 8 seconds. Yes, 8 seconds. Houston Alexander simply heard the bell walked over to the other side of the octagon and got KTFO!

Look at that card...it's free? The UFC has put together a great card free on Spike TV on Wednesday night April 2 at 7pm. The Fight Night events are usually two hours long but the UFC convinced Spike TV to give them three hours for this event. Following Fight Night 13 is the season primiere of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs Team Forrest (by far the best reality show ever). At the conclusion of this season's TUF Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will meet up with the opposing coach Forrest Griffin at UFC 86 on July 5 in Las Vegas. (Watch the video in my previous blog post or at http://www.mma-fight-videos.com to see what Quinton "Rampage" Jackson had to say about his future opponent and Kimbo Slice).
