The Good, The Bad and The Ugly 6.18.08

    The good

    1. Watching someone you know pitch in the majors.

It was fantastic, and a bit surreal, to watch someone I've known for 11 years pitch on Friday against the Reds - Just Masterson. He pitched a good game, with 3 hangers that killed him. Still 9 strikeouts, including one against Griffey, and our Reds still won? Couldn't have asked for much better! Congrats again, Justin! It was nice seeing you after the game!

    2. Chad Johnson will have the ankle surgery the Bengals asked him to have at the end of last season.

At least under anesthesia he won't be able to talk.

    3. Terrelle Pryor is at Ohio State and looks even stronger than was thought.

"This is probably the strongest he's ever been," said Ray Reitz, Pryor's football coach at Jeannette (Pa.) High School. "He's been busting his butt in the weight room, running with a parachute (for resistance). This kid has always worked hard, but he's pushed it a little further now. He's trying to get his body ready."

He's already devouring the playbook. I'm so ready for some Buckeyes football!

    The Bad

    1. Now we can't win at home?

The one solace we Reds fans had was that we could at least win at home.

Now, that no longer seems to be the case.

Lost 3 of the last 4.

      Oi vey.

    2. Corey Patterson has a penchant for getting caught stealing.

I can honestly say I don't remember a time where I've seen a Reds player be so bad at stealing second. It's been a fabulous way to run us out of potential, important runs. I don't want to beat up on the guy, but come on!

    3. Jeremi Johnson's added weight.

This doesn't just refer to his 40+-lb. weight gain. Though that's a large part of it. But how can a guy like that be the highest-paid fullback in the NFL? Not his fault, but that seems to be a dumb move on the Bengals part.

    The Ugly

    1. Homer Bailey's line on Sunday.

I don't even want to post the stats - it was that painful. Poor kid needs to be sent back down. Maybe now he'll learn something in Louisville. And I hope he does - I really want to see him do well. Maybe he needs the Volquez-in-Texas treatment...

That's 2 weeks in a row on the Ugly list for Homer. Sad stuff.

    2. Dusty Baker's excuses for Corey Patterson.

"Everybody's wondering why I didn't pinch-hit for Corey," Baker said. "Corey, in his career, has been better against left-handers than right-handers. I was limited in the outfield and didn't have Junior today."

What does Patterson have on Dusty? I mean, seriously - this is getting a bit old.

    3. Retief Goosen's assertion that Tiger was faking it is pompous and ridiculous.

“Nobody really knows if he was just showing off or if he was really injured. I believe if he was really injured, he would not have played.”

That, my friends, is sportmanship at it's lowest. I don't like booing players.

That being said, boo, Retief. BOOOO.

Oh, and if you didn't hear, Tiger is having season-ending knee surgery, But maybe's he's faking that too.
