I recently moved into my first home of my own. I enjoy my house, enjoy the quiet. I can put whatever on the radio and TV I want. Sounds great, right? It is, except...
I don't have cable.
Which I really don't miss that much, except when it comes to my Reds.
With the exception of the time I was still at my folks' house and the 2 games I've been to this season and the one time I was at B-Dubs, I haven't seen a single game this season.
Don't get me wrong - I love listening to the Reds on the radio. We have some great broadcasters, I must say. But there's something about watching that ball sail over the outfield fence, seeing Volquez sail through another game with inexplicable ease, watching the mechanics of those sparkling plays... it's exhilirating, heartbreaking, adrenaline pumping.
Maybe I'll have to frequent my neighboring BW3s more often...
But none has me more excited than the major league debut of a pitcher from the Red....Sox?
Justin Masterson is making his major league debut today. I was good friends with his sister in jr high/high school, and Justin and my brother played against each other in Little League. He is a great guy - humble and likeable, with a fastball that has been clocked as high as 99 mph.
Thus far, he has gone 2 innings, no hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts against the Angels (not exactly a chump lineup).
I hope you have a great outing, Justin! Our thoughts and prayers (and eyes, lol) are with you today here in Dayton!
All that being said, I'm really not that much of a pessimist. I think things will balance out with the Reds. Moves will be made. The Bengals will be... well... ok, so I don't know. But something's gotta give.
So I've migrated from blogspot/blogger to here... not that many will read it, but eh, that's all right.
Sometime soon I have fun pictures to post. You see, my cousin is Tom Brown. You may have heard Lance mention him on his show - he was the left-handed pitcher at Reds Baseball Heaven that was so good. Well, the other day, he randomly sent me a jersey of his from one of his many trips down there, autographed by the following Reds:
Ken Griffey, Sr.
Joel Youngblood
Jack Billingham
Pat Zachry
Doug Flynn
Tom Browning
Herm Winningham
Todd Benzinger
Billy Hatcher
Needless to say, I was pretty excited when I got it in the mail. So pictures to follow later...
