Big Day at the Ballpark

Enquirer/Coleman Wow. How jealous am I that I didn't get to go to the game today. Perfect weather, day game, grand slam. I got to hear it on the radio (which, despite the fact that I work at the radio, it's very hard to find one that actually works) in my 8 X 8 office with no window. But, I can't complain! The boys won! Check out Chubby-Hot below... Enquirer/Coleman This is the hottest criminal I've ever seen from far away. It might just be his means of transportation and how he's gone about his criminal ways, but man, it works for him. Guys - there is nothing hotter than a bad boy on a horse. I'm going to pretend I never saw the picture of him below. So as you may have heard today on the Sports Attack at 10:45 with Mo, I have a new hair color. I came to work yesterday as a blonde and left as a brunette. I've gotten a lot compliments from my very sweet coworkers, but I've been told that guys really prefer blondes. Poll time! Pics of my new do to come soon! Lewis Has Been Adopted!

I was at the Animal Friends Humane Society in Trenton Ohio to volunteer for my Spirit Day. Here at the station we get one day off a year to go help someone who needs it. I decided to go with two of my coworkers to help out those who may need it the most, the animals at the Animal Friends Humane Society in Trenton. I've never been to an animal shelter before in person. My family adopted two wiener dogs from rescue organizations, but I've never seen what it's like at one of these places first hand. I knew it would be hard, and people who know me well told me not to go, but I did, and I'm glad. At the risk of sounding really mushy, it was a pretty life changing day. We arrived at the shelter in the morning and set of to walk the dogs. We would each pick a dog in the shelter and get him or her out for some exercise in the back yard or the nature trail. I walked a few restless younger dogs around the walking trail, and man were they grateful to be outside in the fresh air. About the third or fourth trip inside to get a new dog to walk, I passed by a tiny little terrier mix that I had passed up every other time for the simple fact that he was so small I didn't see him. I grabbed him out of his cage and immediately noticed that he had to be one of the oldest dogs in the shelter. He couldn't weigh more than six or seven pounds. I carried him out in the back yard to go for a walk. Well, he didn't walk far because he had some problems with his back legs, probably arthritis. He was happy to just hang out by the picnic bench. He wimpered a little and looked up at me. I picked him up and sat down with him on the bench. That was when I completely melted. I spent all day with Lewis. In the picture above we're at the set of the Extreme Makeover Home Edition! We took the dogs out to get them some exposure with the public. It didn't last long, we got kicked out... No dogs allowed. It was a great chance to get the dogs out of the shelter for a while. Moral of the story. The little guy I'm holding in all these pictures needs a home. Bad. He is an older terrier mix with a bit of arthritis in his hind legs, but other than that he's in good health. He's so friendly, he just wants to be held and given some attention. He's great at riding in the car. He's quiet. He's wonderful. All the dogs at the shelter are, they'd make a great addition to any family. I would love to take Lewis myself, but my apartment people think otherwise. He would make a great dog for anyone who just wants someone to hang out with. He's small, quiet, and his poop couldn't be any bigger than a golf ball... What more could you want in a pet? Think about it, then contact the Animal Friends Humane Society. Who else is almost as cute as Lewis? Josh Hamilton! Did you see him last night? If you haven't then I'm sure you've heard. That's enough for tonight. I'm going to go catch up on the All Star Game... Okay... Maybe some Deadliest Catch...
Happy 4th of July Homer Fans!

Happy 4th of July! I hope you're as excited about the holiday weekend as I am. The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays for a number of reasons. One, it's in July, and that means by birthday is coming up and I'll most likely get some money. (Just to let you know my birthday is July 31 and I'll be 24. Is that officially middle aged? It feels like it...) Anyway, second, you get to sit on the sidewalk while people walk by (or ride by, I'll get to that in a minute) and throw candy and refrigerator magnets at you. Parades are a beautiful thing. If you've ever been in one you know the excitement of walking down the middle of the street waving at people who have no idea who you are. This year I'm not in a parade, I'll be watching one from the comfort of my parents front yard, ready to catch as many Tootsie Rolls as I can get my hands on. Third, you don't have to go to work. Enough said. If you are by any chance working today, I'll make sure to drink a beer for you! Fourth, it's an official holiday, yet you're not expected to visit with relatives that you hardly know at your great aunt's house that smells like mothballs and Depends. It's a holiday, but if you just can't make it to the family gathering (because you're busy with your own explosives) it's really not that big of a deal because it's not Christmas or Thanksgiving. Fifth, you're expected to grill out and drink beer. If you don't, people look at you like you have three eyes. I sure don't want that, so I guess I'll force myself to throw some hotdogs on the grill and have a beer while doing it. It's a hard life. Sixth, fireworks. Here's where I stray away from the mainstream pyros and find a safe corner to hide. I love fireworks, from a distance. As I mentioned the other day on the Sports Attack with Mo at 10:45, I had a disagreement with a sparkler as a child, it left me scarred for life. I picked up a newly extinguished sparkler by the wrong end. I wrapped my grubby little kid hands all the way around it before the boiling-lava-hot sensor went of in my head. To this day I enjoy watching fireworks from a safe distance. I'll leave the lighting them off part to the boys. Going back to my beginning statement that despite the amazingness of parades, some have gone down hill. My own hometown of Edgewood Kentucky parade is a great example. It used to be that it woud be a mile of enthusiastic people jumping and running around throwing stuff out the the throngs of viewers, marching bands, funny looking cars, and a bunch of other cool stuff. I don't know if the safety police have gotten to the parades or if it's just pure laziness, but there's a lot less walking and a lot more sitting and waving going on. I don't care to see you sitting in your 2004 Mustang convertible waving at me. Walk around on stilts and throw candy or something. Come on. I don't want to put down the parade too much, I'm about to go ourside and watch it in about three minutes. I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures to illustrate my point, or, hopefully, prove myself wrong. Happy 4th Homer fans! Have a great holiday weekend! |
