don't get me wrong.... i'm very happy we came away with a win, and i'm REALLY happy to see a rookie get his first Major League hit in his Debut game... to win the game for the team, however....
was there a reason for that to happen? should they have even been in that situation? absolutely not. Going into the 9th with a 6 run lead, and blowing it? Costing Bronson a MUCH NEEDED win after a GREAT OUTING, and blowing a shutout?
i will admit though... its nice to see this team manufacturing runs again, and playing "small ball" and it is also nice to see Harriston batting like a champ. single, double and a triple tonight!
After last nights win, and tonights almost blown W, my record is now up to 7-5! hooray! at least i'm over .500 at games i've attended....
one more note. I know mike lincoln looked really good in the 8th (shutting down the side) however why bring him out again in the 9th? had he not put the men on base, cordero's base hit and homer that he gave up would have meant nothing... except blowing a possible shutout.
goood move dusty... but i guess i'm not a manager for a reason.
i'm a die hard cyclones fan.... and i really wanted to be at tonights 6-1 game 7 victory over the royals tonight, however i could not pass up the free reds tickets i was able to obtain.
let it be known that i was very happy to hear of my teams victory, and no doubt, i will be in the stands friday and saturday night for games 1 and 2 of the next round of the playoffs... lets go clones!
i want everybody to get behind this team, since they very clearly have a shot at the kelly cup this year... plus, where else can you get cheap ticktets, cheap beer, and the chance to watch fights break out!!!
lets go cyclones!!! as lance pointed out, they may win more games this season than the reds.... (though i really really hope not)
p.s. lance, last week you told me hockey could not be a topic on your show becuase of lack of interest, yet today, i listen and every 5 minutes you are bringing up the cyclones and promoting game 7.... while i appreciate it, i was just wondering.... why the change of heart??? or is there really just nothing "BETTER" to talk about?
so tonight i attended the reds games vs. the cubs. It was probably one of hte best games i've seen in a while ,especially from this team. i'm not doubting them, but it was good to see a W tonight to bring my season record of game attendence to 5-5....
if it were not for an error by DeRosa at 3rd, this game most probably would have been a loss, seeing as how dunn may not have homered... so first of all, thank you DeRosa.
Second, lets give it up for Paul Bako.... our catcher. Honestly, he had a great night defensively. I do not think i'I ve ever seen a CLOSER (Cordero) throw so many pitches in the dirt... all of which (except for one which resulted in a blessing of an out) bako was able to stop to keep runners from advancing. Had he let one or two get bye, Cordero would have blown a save (since he loaded the bases twice) and the Cubs would have left tonight with a W off of the cincinnati reds.
I was happy to see the reds win a game at home, hopefully it will be the begining of a trend... and maybe, just maybe this season won't be a total loss after all...
Next, i would just like to say, that i was 8 rows behind the visiting dugout tonight... and i am now convinced that cubs fans really are assholes.... now i have been to wrigley field several times... nearly 20 games now.... and yeah, cubs fans are usually pretty hostile towars visiting fans, but never in my life have i witnessed what i witnessed tonight. A cubs fan sitting 3 rows in front of me, in a visiting stadium decided he was going to take it upon himself to be a complete asshole and nearly ruin the game for me, and everyone around me, including fellow cubs fans.
This gentleman decided to stand for the entire first inning, completely blocking my, as well as others view of home plate... after some shouting and choice curse words from him, i finally decided to yell back at him.... "sit down, we're trying to watch a ball game here" cubs fans (which i believe outnumbered reds fans tonight... sad but true) agreed with me. they also wanted to see the game.
this polite young man decided to continue to stand through the second, and curse at every reds player / fan in his sight. finally, someone asked him to sit down again... he replied " i paid for this seat, *explicit* you" well i had had enough..... my response was "yeah, you paid for your seat, so sit in it.... you didnt pay to stand so the rest of us cant see what the hell is goin'g on with the game"... at this point, a thunderous applause arose for me, reds fans and cubs fans alike.... i felt pretty good. during the next inning, a beach ball began to circulate, and of course, this bum from chicago (same guy as earliers) grabbed the ball and popped it to loud boos... at this point i really thought about having him ejected but decided not too... he would not make a peep the rest of the game, until the 9th, which made for a very enjoyable remainder of the game.... i didnt get mad at him for getting behind his rallying team in the 9th, i probably would ahve done the same... but everything else was totally unacceptable.
besides, we won, so its good anyway.....
once again, lets give it up for cueto, who fanned 8 and improved his record, and lets definetely give it up for BAKO who in my opinion saved the game...
reds forever, cubs NEVER!!!
p.s. has anyone ever seen anything like teh way ryan dempster moves his glove before a pitch?
let it be known, i am a hockey fan. ( i know, many wonder why) but as a long time season ticket holder for the cincinnati cyclones in the past, i regrent not re-upping when the team re-established itself after the ducks departure. let it be known, i will be holding next season...
anyway, tonight i attended my tenth clones game of the season, and it was nothing less than amazing. the 1500 or so in attendence were obviously die hards. the place was louder than i've ever heard it, even when the lower bowl is full (9,000+) fans.
the clones came out victorious, 5-3... to tie the playoff season with the Reading Royals at 2 a piece. Game 5 will be tomorrow at USBANK arena..... here is the deal... tickets are ten dollars for anywehre in the bowl, and beers are only a dollar!
honestly. $10 tickets and $1 beers... not to mention an exciting fast pace game with a lot of fights? where else can you find that kind of entertainment in this city?
on to the good stuff. tonight i witnessed something i've never seen at a hockey game... and i've witnessed hundreds. Literally, before the puck hit the ice, the gloves did. A fight after 3 seconds ran off the clock. the refs did nothing to stop it. the fight lasted a good 2.5 minutes before the clones player took the royals man down and pulled his shirt over his head. one of the best hockey fights i've ever seen...
the night was full of action. lots of fighits, though none as extreme as the one with 19:57 to go in the first period.... and lots of great hockey. obviously ther ewas some bad blood left over from an incident that occured during mondays 5-2 clones loss...
anyway, tomorrow is game 5 of the series, and hopefully we can send the series to reading wit ha 3-2 lead... i would like to see the place packed and jamming. as i said before, $10 ticktets, $1 beer, and what should be one hell of an exciting game.
lets get behind the team in the city that ACTUALLY has a chance at winning a championship this season!!!!!
i dont know aobut you guys... but they looked like day and night out there tonight as opposed to last night. they were hitting the ball well, playing small ball and how bout Harriston gong 4-5! i know i was downing on the fact that hopper wasnt given a chance... but geeze, who would have expected that.... obviously dusty did. p.s. it really did suck that van halen left about the same time as the reds game... damn traffic sucked!
i was very impressed tonight. finally justifying why i'm spending all of my hard earned money down at hte ballpark this year. i've improved to 4-4 on the season! hoping to get w#5 on thursday! can't wait....
Love my Redlegs...
Moving on. Bengals...
im with lance, no chad talk... so i'm with marvin. let him sit. forget it, force him to play, or let him sit...
as for other news, Seahawks released shaun alexander... think the bengals will take a chance? do we like it or not? i know i for one wouldn't mind having him on the roster....
