A gutless 1-6 Homestand on the heels of a gutless 1-5 Road trip have sent the Reds to depths that maybe only the Mario Soto 1982/1983 Reds have reached. Fittingly it was Soto who was working with Johnny Cueto and Edinson Volquez this Spring in Sarasota. No one at the time realized they were watching a possible 100 loss team. March was filled with optimism. The Reds had not only found one new arm but two!! Dependable Aaron Harang looked primed to win another 15-18 games. Bronson Arroyo looked sharp and seemingly found his fastball again. Maybe we were not looking for the warning signs because of our annual Spring optimism. Paul Bako was not only going to make the team but was being groomed as the Reds # 1 catcher despite a poor Spring. Jay Bruce was sent packing to Louisville even though Corey Patterson had not won the CF position. EE and Adam Dunn had slow Springs but we were told they would come around. Alex Gonzalez was no where to be found in Sarasota who was supposed to be a great double play combination with Brandon Phillips. Homer Bailey continued to struggle in the Spring. Reds fans including myself were counting on so many things going right when baseball proves how so many things can go wrong. But never in my wildest nightmares would I believe that a Dusty Baker run team would be so clueless. So lifeless. So inept. So gutless. So void of fundamentals. So uncaring. A great baseball town has the worst franchise in baseball to cheer on. Sad... The Devil Rays won 66 games last season. The Rays today won their 71st. It can happen. The worst franchise can become better. Do the Reds ownership and mangement have the brains and talent to turn it around????.................... Silence

Do the Reds ownership and *management* have the brains and talent to turn it around????
RyanIt's not silence...it's just that no one wants to say NO. There are so many fans in this town that are hurt with every loss that this team takes. I've lived in a number of professional sports towns and NO ONE in baseball, and I mean NO ONE takes losses worse than the hardcore Reds fans.
And, I don't think that you can say that the Reds are the WORST franchise in baseball... maybe the biggest underachieving team in baseball. The Expos/Nationals still have a BIG HOLE to dig out of to get out of the basement... Even if they did have a couple of good seasons in the 90's They are GOD AWFUL! Even if they swept the Reds in their last series...they are still 30 games UNDER .500!
It's interesting- Bowden has connections to both of these teams... maybe it's his fault.
I wonder if Dusty Baker would have taken this job if he knew he was going to get his head kicked in this bad night in and night out? Maybe he doesn't really care and just needed/wanted the pay check.
