June 2008 was a month of amazing accomplishments and spectacular victories. Where to begin....
Boston Celtics defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 4 games to 2, finishing it off with a 131-92 blowout at the TD Banknorth Garden (not to be confused with the original Boston Garden). I was unable to see game 6 because i had to work that night, but my first reaction to hearing the final score was "come again??" I don't care who you are, that's just ridiculous. How do you lose by 39 in the deciding game of a championship series?? I understand Boston was the better team, and I was excited as all get out to hear they won, but come on LA. That's called hand delivering the NBA Championship to the Boston Celtics, who now have 17 to their credit. Congrats to Garnett, Pierce, and Allen for finally winning the big one. Good for them.
Tiger Woods. That's all i need to say. What can't he do?? He won the US Open on a knee that pretty much had to be completely rebuilt afterward. Now, he says that his knee had been bothering him for nearly his entire professional career!!!! Are you kidding me?!?! 14 Major Championships at the age of 32. Can't imagine how well he might do with a pain free knee....
Ken Griffey, Jr hits home run number 600 at Dolphin Stadium on June 9. We all knew it was only a matter of time before he'd hit his 600th, the question was where and when. I'm not going to go into the whole "how many would he have hit if he hadn't gotten hurt" conversation, because frankly i don't care how many he would have hit if he wouldn't have had injury troubles. The point is that he's still gonna be a first ballot hall of famer without question. Griffey doesn't deserve all the "what if" crap people say about him. He earned my respect at a very early age, and he still has my respect. The question now is when will we be inducting him into the hall of fame in Cooperstown.
Just a quicky on the Tampa Bay "Don't Call Me Devil" Rays. 50 wins by the end of June for the first time in franchise history; actually, it's the first time they've gotten to 50 wins before the month of August. To top it all off, they not only lead the Boston Red Sox by 2.5 games, but they have the best record in the majors by a game and a half over the Chicago Cubs and Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles. What can i say but GO RAYS!!!!
