This season has been a major Bridge of Sighs
Homer Simpson imitation continues
Last year at this time, Homer Bailey was the second coming of the Messiah..he pitched marginally well and the bullpen as was their fashion blew a couple games he would have won. Sent down simply to keep him im the same rotation during the All Star break, a groin injury supposedly kept him from coming back until they decided to bring him up on the last day of the season in a meaningless game.
The handling of Bailey last year to me speaks volumes of his attitude and mental block this year. Walks have always been a problem; he probbably would have started the season with the Reds had he not walked 6 in his last outing. As such, he was back in Louisville, where his attitude took a few more steps back. It was reported he was surly with hall of fame beat writer Hal Mccoy, to which he stated he had learned nothing from his extended stint in the minors as he walked away.
Fast forward to June 15 and Homer Bailey is 0-3 in 3 desparation starts with the Reds. His ERA hovers around 9, as he's given up 12 earned runs in 12.2 innining pitched. Of the top of my head, and I'm quoting the stat sheet I saw earlier in the day, so correct me if i'm wrong, I think he's walked 10 and given up six home runs in his first 3 starts. Jesus H. Christ, he's making Belisle look like an ace. What's gone wrong with this former can't miss prospect? I used to think he'll take his lumps and be alright, but 3 putrid starts have me thinking he's got more lumps than this team is willing to deal with.
I forsee a scenario where Bailey is traded and will have his renaissance with another team, just as Kyle Loshe has had with St Louis...the Reds can hopefully get some value out of Homer but I have a feeling his attitude towards this organization has soured to the point where he'll be no good for us now. Hope I'm wrong.
Growing pains
Had a nice long blog which didn't take, so I'll sum up...Reds are rebuilding...this season is done...they will contend next year
D'oh!!
I was hoping Homer Bailey would have been an upgrade over Belisle or Fogg as the 5th starter. After tonight I'm not so sure about that.
Welcome To The (Big Red) Machine
This music post is for Bruce and Janish, Herrera and Bailey, Votto, Queto, and Volquez...in other words, the rookies which will be the foundation of the new Big Red Machine to come!!!
