Reds hit the road with momentum
With a six game winning streak under their belt thanks to perfect homestand, the Reds have the dreaded West coast road trip on the horizon. History ahows the West coast has been anything but kind to the Reds. With the kind of momentum they've got (longest win streak of the year, longest current MLB winning streak) hoping for at least 4 of 7 would be considered a success. that said, a strong road trip might be proof enough that this club has indeed the corner. If you'd told me 2 weeks ago this team would be on the verge of .500 I'd have laughed.
Heaven and Hell
Seems to define the Reds season pretty well thus far; therefore, this is Saturday's music post. Enjoy!!!
Winds of change???
This Cleveland series could be a defining moment in the Reds season. If they happen to take the series, or God forbid, sweep The Indians, there can be no denying the momentum as they push towards .500...The pitching is regrouping once again,: isn't it 3 starts in a row now where Cueto has allowed just 3 runs? He needs to stop giving up the long ball...12 now on the year I believe. Arroyo is starting to look solid, and no question at all regarding Harang and Volquez. That leaves Belisle as the weak link and Homer waiting in the wings. June 5 is approaching fast. Either Griffey or Dunn needs to be traded at that point. Griffey is the obvious choice simply due to Seattle's interest and his desire to "retire" a Mariner. At the very least if he has still not reached 600 home runs by that time which seems almost incomprehensible, he can get his 600 in the city that deserves it. I'm not an overly religious man but I can assure you God is not a Reds fan. The Griffey fiasco in Cincinnati has made that clear. Jr. will be happy and perhaps after 600 in Seattle they can push him along to a contender in the A.L where he can spend the next few years as a D.H. and from there sign his Emmit Smith type "token" contract to retire a Mariner after all. As the new Griffey love fest unfolds on the west coast, Jay Bruce can make the long awaited contribution to this ballclub that's been needed since opening day. Homer Bailey can fulfill his destiny in the majors with no pressure as the no. 5 as opposed to last year when he was deemed the second coming of Sandy Koufax.
Or maybe Volquez loses the duel of the best pitchers of 2008; perhaps Harang gets his typical lack of run support and the momentum the Reds had turns in to a lost series??
To that I say so what? The same course of action needs to be taken. Under no scenario do Griffey and Dunn have a future in Cincinnati. I think I said it before; the future is now. There can be no more excuses to keep Jay Bruce in AAA. Nor Bailey. Remember, this is the year in which "No Country For Old Men" won best picture. Indeed, the Reds should take note of that.
Friday's music post
A nod to one of the best live acts (and most underrated) of the 70's...Trower Power at it's best!!!
