WESTWOOD - Another option of where to buy a morning snack and cup of coffee should soon be available.
Crews are moving right along with the construction of a new Dunkin' Donuts store at the intersection of Glenway Avenue and Werk Road, on the site once occupied by a Shell gas station.
"We are very enthusiastic about the Dunkin' Donuts," said Westwood Civic Association president Jim McNulty.
"I would say you would be very hard pressed to find someone who doesn't like it. The benefit of having that store there is great."
He said when representatives from the restaurant chain asked the civic association for its support in their request for some minor variances on the property, association members were pleased to endorse the request.
Residents are encouraged by the progress being made in the neighborhood's business districts, McNulty said. First, Target announced plans to build a brand new store at the Western Hills Plaza, and now Dunkin' Donuts is constructing a new business right across the corner, he said.
"Things are really shaping up on that Glenway corridor," he said.
"As soon as we fill up Glenway Avenue we're going to start working on Harrison Avenue."
McNulty said there are several locations along Harrison Avenue that would be great for new businesses, particularly the vacant lot where Habig's restaurant once stood. He said that site is ready for new development right now.
